Tracking a hot and breezy weekend, cooler air and showers returning

Summer-like heat, sunshine, and southerly breezes will persist across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas this weekend, before a cold front brings rain chances and cooler air Sunday night through much of next week.

Friday has been another scorcher with afternoon highs in the low 90s, sunshine, and southerly winds at 10 to 15 mph. Warm and dry conditions persist overnight with lows falling into the mid 60s after midnight. Mostly sunny skies and afternoon heat return Saturday with highs in the upper 80s. Southerly winds will pick up Saturday at 10 to 20 mph, gusting up to 30 mph.

Mostly sunny, hot, and breezy weather stick around Sunday, before a cold front pushes into the region late Sunday evening. Increasing clouds and a 30% to 40% chance of t-showers will build in Sunday night and continue through Monday. Following the cold front, high temperatures will run in the mid to upper 70s Monday afternoon, with cooler air to come by the middle of next week marking the return of fall-like temperatures.
