Tracking mid-September heat and sunshine

A wave of September heat has begun building across the Central Plains this week, with above average temperatures and tons of sunshine. This pattern will continue through the next several days, making for a summer-like weekend.

Mostly sunny skies and highs near 90 degrees Thursday afternoon will give way to a few passing clouds overnight and mild temperatures, as lows fall into the upper 60s after midnight with light southerly breezes. Sunshine and afternoon heat continue and intensify Friday, with highs reaching the low to mid 90s and southwest winds at 15 to 20 mph. Saturday brings another dose of afternoon 90s, sunshine, and southerly winds.
