Tracking August heat and sunshine

Hot and muggy conditions have settled in to the Mid-Missouri River Valley Friday, and are here to stay through the weekend along with plenty of sunshine. A Heat Advisory remains in place across all of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Triple digit heat index values will result in an increased risk for heat related illness through the advisory period.

Sunshine and mid 90s Friday afternoon will give way to a warm and dry night. Heat indices will range from the upper 90s to triple digits until sunset, with temperatures remaining in the 80s as late as midnight for some. Southerly breezes at 5 to 10 mph will persist overnight as well, with lows falling into the mid to upper 70s and mostly clear skies. Saturday will be another scorcher with plenty of sunshine and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s. High humidity will once again allow heat indices to rise into the triple digits and light southerly breezes will also persist. Sunday will essentially be a repeat performance, as more sunshine and intense afternoon heat continue. Isolated t-storm chance and a few extra clouds will arrive Monday, although temperatures will struggle to cool appreciably as highs remain in the low 90s. Better rain and t-storm chances return Monday night and Tuesday, promoting more seasonable temperatures and less intense heat.
