Tracking August heat, and lots of sunshine

A steady warming trend and stretch of sunny days lies ahead for Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas through the rest of this week. Muggy conditions will accompany the spike in temperatures resulting in high heat index values, likely reaching the triple digits by Friday. Oppressive heat and humidity are forecast to settle into the region through the weekend, before conditions improve by the middle of next week.

Mostly sunny skies and upper 80s Wednesday afternoon will give way to 70s after sunset. Mostly clear skies remain overnight with lows falling into the mid to upper 60s, and light winds. Aside from a few passing clouds Thursday morning and early afternoon, sunshine continues and afternoon highs warm into the upper 80s to low 90s. Heat indices will top out in the mid 90s Thursday, with southerly breezes at 5 to 10 mph.
