Tracking t-storms, heavy rainfall, flood risk

Rounds of shower and thunderstorm activity will bring an increased risk for heavy rainfall and flooding across the Mid-Missouri River Valley starting Thursday evening and continuing into Friday. A Flood Watch has been issued for all of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas from 4 p.m. Thursday, July 24 through 4 a.m. Saturday, July 25. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are likely across much of the watch area. Rainfall could exceed 4 to 5 inches locally, leading to rapidly rising waterways and flooding of low-lying areas.

Rain and thunderstorm chances will remain high tonight, at 80% to 100% through Friday morning. Overnight lows will fall into the low 70s, and high by Friday afternoon will run in the low to mid 80s. Mostly cloudy skies and a 60% to 70% chance of showers and storms lingers Friday and Friday night before sunshine returns on Saturday. Hot and mostly sunny days will prevail through the weekend and into next week, as high temperatures soar well into the 90s and heat index values rise into the triple digits.
