Tracking Saturday sunshine; severe threat late Sunday

A sunny start to the weekend will give way to scattered strong storms late Sunday, as a low pressure system brings a regional threat for severe weather back into the forecast both Sunday and Monday. Warm, dry, and windy conditions continue locally Friday evening. Winds could occasionally gust over 30 mph through sunset, with passing clouds giving way to clear skies late. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 40s to low 50s after midnight. Sunshine is sticking around on Saturday, with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 70s and northwesterly breezes at 10 to 20 mph. Much of Sunday will remain dry with periods of sunshine and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. A 40% chance of scattered strong storms will develop into the evening and overnight hours. Storms could contain sizable hail and damaging winds, the most substantial tornado threat remains well west of the Missouri River across parts of Kansas. Additional rounds of strong to severe thunderstorm activity will be possible Monday and Tuesday as an active pattern settles into the region.
