This morning, the first round of showers has begun, remaining on the lighter side. Any thunderstorms that do develop will have a low risk of becoming severe, as they will remain garden variety. Later this afternoon, however, the threat for severe thunderstorms will increase. A few storms may be severe, with damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain being the primary hazards. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out, but the threat is still low. Much of northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas is under a flood watch from now until 7 a.m. Wednesday, as rainfall totals could reach 2 to 3 inches or more and result in localized flooding during the period.

Wednesday will bring dry skies and mild temperatures, with highs expected in the mid-70s. On Thursday and Friday, an active weather pattern will return, with chances for more showers and thunderstorms.
