Tracking a Wet Start to June

Hot and humid conditions will continue into the overnight hours as temperatures will only cool off to the upper 60s and low 70s. Lingering haze is still present on that horizon as wildfire smoke is still funneling in from Canada. Overnight tonight Northern Missouri and Northeastern Kansas has the potential opportunity to see the aurora borealis or the northern lights. The best time to see this is late at night tonight into the early morning hours Monday. To view the northern light you want to make sure you go to a dark outside area with no light pollution. The colors might be faint so it might be best to use your phone camera on night mode to see the vivid colors of the northern lights.

Monday is looking to be dry and toasty as temperatures climb again into the upper 80s almost 90s. In the overnight hours on Monday a cold front will begin to inch into the region and bring loads of moisture and rain. Rain chances are looking to stretch through the entire day on Tuesday. In the evening hours on Tuesday the Storm Prediction Center has an area to the east of I-35 highlighted for severe potential. Besides the chance of these storms being strong to severe, flash flooding is also an issue that we are continuing to track. The system on Tuesday could bring 1”-2” in a lot of areas through NW Missouri and NE Kansas. But Tuesday is not the end of the rain. Rain chances are expected through the weekend which could cause additional flooding concerns. After the cold front passes on Tuesday temperatures will drop over 10 degrees Tuesday through Friday. We will slowly creep back up into the 80s by the weekend.

Make sure you continue to stay up to date with the Storm Tracker Weather Team for additional details on the rain chances extending through the week
