Tracking a warm end to the week & Friday t-storms

Today will be another warm mid-October day across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Temperatures will quickly climb near 84 degrees under mostly sunny and dry conditions. Overnight, lows will only fall to around 64 degrees, setting up another mild start for Friday morning.

Friday brings a light at the end of the tunnel as a cold front pushes through the region, bringing a chance for thunderstorms and a much-needed cooldown. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the area under a marginal risk — a level one out of five — for severe weather. While this is a low-end threat, a few storms could produce quarter-size hail and wind gusts up to 50 to 60 mph as the system moves through. The main window for storms will be from late Friday afternoon through the evening and into the overnight hours.

Any lingering showers will wrap up early Saturday morning. Behind the front, temperatures will begin to drop, with highs in the mid-70s. Saturday night will bring a noticeable change — lows will dip into the low 40s, giving us our first true taste of fall.

Sunday will feel much cooler and more seasonal, with highs in the mid-60s and dry conditions throughout the day. As we head into the start of the new workweek, temperatures will briefly rebound into the mid-70s on Monday before cooler 60s return by midweek.
