See St. Joseph: Brunches, tomfoolery and bellydancing

By Kendra Simpson
Dance, themed brunch and comedy are all coming to St. Joseph over the next couple of days, and with the sun expected to stay out, it’ll be a great weekend to have some fun with friends and family.
The Dance Arts Center is gearing up for a weekend of performances with its recital “The Wonders of Dance.”
Kicking off the recital weekend will be the Senior Showcase, a performance from the adult tap class and VIPs. Following the show, the winners of the Lynn Frankauser scholarship as well as the Alyssa Turner Memorial scholarship will be announced at the reception. It all begins 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Missouri Theater.
Then on Saturday, there will be three shows featuring the various classes of the studio. There will be dances in all types of genres including musical theater, jazz, ballet, hip hop and more. For a complete list of performance times and ticketing information, visit the studio’s website at https://thedanceartscenter.com/.
The Downtown Library is bringing a new exercise regimen that is interactive, fun and free for all of St. Joseph with a session of belly dancing.
The Blacksnake Bellydance Circle will share its mission of inclusive dance and show that dance is for everybody and every body. The group will demonstrate practiced routines and invite attendees to learn some moves. Get ready to move and have fun at this program intended for adults starting 11 a.m. Saturday at the Downtown Library.
The Den is doing it again with its Britney Spears themed brunch Saturday morning, appropriately titled “It’s Britney Brunch.”
Choose your favorite iconic Britney style and join the Den for a fantastic brunch, Britney Spears edition. They’ll be playing the iconic pop star’s music, have themed donuts by Sweet Emotions Bake Shop, plus a flight of Brit-inspired mimosas. Bottomless mimosas will be available that day, as well as the BritMosa Flight and Build Your Own Bloody Mary. They will also have their full menu and mocktails as well. There’s even going to be a prize for the best-dressed Britney, so do not be afraid to go all out, but leave the yellow pythons at home. Brunch goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Den. Tickets for the brunch can be purchased on the Den’s website at https://theotherden.square.site/.
Join Time Out Event Center for a side-splitting night of comedy, magic and even pick-pocketing.
The Mike Bliss comedy show is bringing his unique approach to comedy at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Time Out Event Center. Special guest Dan Rathmann will be opening the show. Comedy will be appropriate for the whole family, so go ahead and bring the kids. This is a free show, so why not go out and enjoy yourself with comedy, magic and a sprinkle of tomfoolery?
