Woman dead following Wednesday police call on Commonwealth

St. Joseph police report that a woman is dead after an incident Wednesday night at South 40th Street and Commonwealth Drive.

Emergency crews were called to that location for a crash at about 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, but when they arrived, they determined a person in the vehicle had suffered a gunshot wound.

Capt. Jeff Wilson with the St. Joseph Police Department said the person is a 39-year-old St. Joseph woman. He said that while police continue to investigate, they are not treating the death as suspicious and there is no danger to the community.

No other details are being released at this time.
