SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Richard “Dick” Whittington, 77, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Springfield. He was born June 12, 1947, in Giessen, Germany, son of late Ingeborg and Clyde Whittington Jr.

He graduated from Benton High School class of 1965 where he was very active in sports, then attended Food Technology School with Texas A & M. He married Karen Huffman on Nov. 12, 1966, and she survives of the home. He was a retired Meat Inspector for the USDA and State of Missouri.

Dick loved to travel, visiting Alaska on a cruise, Germany, Ireland, and Italy twice. He also enjoyed going to Canada fishing. He was a member of Masonic St. Joe Lodge #78 A.F.&A.M., the Gideons Camp U24018, National Association Retired Federal Employees and South Gate Baptist Church in Springfield.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stephen Whittington; and sister, Rosemarie Rothwell.

Survivors include wife, Karen Sue Whittington, of the home; son, Aaron (Amanda) Whittington, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Noah, Josie, Samantha and Jakob; brother-in-law, John (Josie) Huffman; sister-in- law, JoAnn Whittington; and brother-in-law, Dave Rothwell.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services and public live stream; 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Helena Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society.
