ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- A weekend chili competition is paying off for one local agency.

UCP’s Heart of America Chili Challenge, which was held on Sunday, raised $130,000. Agency leaders said the annual event is UCP’s only fundraiser and the money raised supports services for local children and adults with disabilities.

Winners were announced in two categories. 

In the competition for the best chili, first place and Missouri State Champion went to 22+2, Randy Widener; second place was awarded to Knights of Columbus Council 2057, Jimmy Edwards; and the third-place honoree is Muddy Mallard Duck Club II, Joey Calloway.

The winners for raising the most money, known as the People’s Choice Award, in first place was Purina with $42,851, in second was Sisters 3 with $27,403 and taking third was Hot Tamales with $5,727.
