Ezra James Davis, son of Kylee and Josh Davis, was born early in the morning of New Year’s Day, Mosaic Life Care has announced.

The new parents declined to be interviewed, the hospital said in a news release, but were happy to share a photo of their newborn boy. He had been due on Dec. 31, 2023. Kylee had a good pregnancy, giving birth to her first child with Josh, although Ezra has five half-siblings as part of the Davis household.

According to Country Living, a lifestyle and home magazine, babies have been used as symbols of the new year since at least the era of Ancient Greece, some 600 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. The illustrator J.C. Leyendecker immortalized the Baby New Year symbol as a part of American culture in a series of works produced from 1907 to 1943.

Roughly 10,000 newborns arrive each day in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
