ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- A local and world-renowned running group will receive a special honor for making St. Joseph the capital of "Running Streaks in the World" on Monday.

Mayor John Josendale will officially sign a proclamation commemorating June, 6, 2025, as "Measly Mile Mafia Day" at Monday's City Council meeting, the latest accolade for the organization.

With hundreds of members going strong, Measly Mile Mafia earned St. Joseph the title of running streak capital of the world this past October, an honor confirmed by both the U.S. Running Streak Association Inc., and Streak Runners International Inc.

In 2024 alone, members logged nearly 200,000 miles of running, with more than 100 running for 365 days or more consecutively. Some runners are on active streaks longer than two years.

Runners are required to log at least one mile each day in under 20 minutes to continue a streak, with participation taking off from a few people to around 800 since its inception.

"This designation reflects our local commitment, discipline, grit and willpower to run at least one measly mile every day. St. Joseph should be proud of monumental MILEstone," the proclamation reads.
