Selkirk, Ron 1947-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Ron Selkirk, 78, St. Joseph, passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care. He was born in Alton, Illinois, on Jan. 28, 1947, to Marshall and Melba Selkirk.

Ron graduated from Truman State University in 1969 and moved to St. Joseph where he met and married Marilyn Tracy, his wife of 55 years. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.

After teaching and coaching at Central High School for five years the family moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Ron was the head pro and director of tennis at the Woodlake Racquet Club. He returned to St. Joseph in 1980 to become head pro and manager of the St. Joseph Tennis and Swim Club. Ron dedicated six decades of his life to the sport he loved.

When Ron wasn't playing tennis or helping others develop their skills, he enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinal baseball team.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marshall Jr.; and a sister, Sharon Bechtold.

In addition to his wife Ron is survived by their four sons: Geoff, Jay (Laura), Adam (Katie), and Scott (Sara) and 10 grandchildren: Jeremy, Ethan, Ryan, Leyton, Reed, Sawyer, Elliott, Ferris, Dawson and Lucy Selkirk.

Farewell Services 11 a.m. Saturday, at Christ Episcopal Church, 207 N. 7th St., St. Joseph. The family will gather with friends after the service until 2 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to Christ Episcopal Church, Second Harvest Food Bank or Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Joseph.
