Margaret Ann Pickerel, 93, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, in Columbia, Missouri. She was born June 25, 1931, in St. Joseph, daughter of the late Fern (Taylor) and Harold Filbert.

She graduated from Benton High School and married John “Jack” Pickerel on April 25, 1953. She worked at Buchanan County Recorder of Deeds office for many years. She also worked at Anchor Serum and St. James School.

Margaret Ann was a member of St. James Catholic Church, where she was past president of the Altar Society. She also served on the Buchanan County Democratic Committee as committeewoman from her ward.

Margaret Ann enjoyed cooking, baking, crafts, Mizzou Tiger sports, travel-and a good shoe sale. She had many cherished friendships and took great pleasure in being a member of the “CAJ club,” a group of close high school friends that has gathered to socialize monthly for the past 78 years.

Margaret Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents; a brother, Gary Filbert; and a step-grandson, Adam Boynton.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Lynn), of Columbia; grandsons, Matthew (Tracy) and Mark (Kayla); great-grandsons, Parker, Miles and Dominic; step-grandchildren Amber, Anne, and Aaron; step- great-grandsons, Elias and Aden; brother, Richard “Dick” Filbert; and many beloved family members and lifelong friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, Fr. Jonathan Davis as the Celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rupp Funeral Home. The inurnment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the St. James Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
