OSBORN, Mo. – Earl D. Grimes, 90, passed away May 24, 2025. He was born July 9, 1934, in Mirable, Missouri to J.L. and Alice (Hubble) Grimes.

Earl graduated from Cameron, Missouri, High School and attended the University of Missouri, receiving a degree in mathematics and physics. He was a United States Army Veteran.

He married Thelma Johnson April 17, 1957, in Washington, DC. She preceded him in death in 2012. Also preceding him in death were his parents, J.L. and Alice; brother, Fred and wife, Shirley; and infant sister, Martha Marie.

After returning from Washington D.C., he began farming in Columbia, Missouri, and then moved to Osborn, Missouri, where he continued to farm until passing. Earl and his wife, Thelma, enjoyed their family and passionately followed their children and grandchildren to many school and sporting events.

He was actively involved with the American Agriculture Movement. From that, he became involved in the early beginnings of the ethanol industry, serving for many years on the Board of Directors of Golden Triangle Energy in Craig, Missouri. He was a supporter of local agriculture groups and was also a long-time board member of United Cooperatives.

Earl was baptized at the First Christian Church, in Cameron, on April 20, 1950. After returning from Columbia to the Osborn area, Earl and his family attended the Osborn Methodist Church.

Tractor pulling was his hobby and he competed in many events across N.W. Missouri and surrounding states.

Survivors: children, Marie (Steve) Saunders, Stewartsville, Missouri, Allison (Jeff) Barry, Clarence, Missouri, Kathy (Steven) Gerrish, Shelbina, Missouri, and Jerald (Karen) Grimes, Osborn; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at the First Christian Church, Cameron.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, May 29, at the Poland-Thompson Chapel. Burial in Osborn Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Osborn Evergreen Cemetery and/or Osborn High School Alumni Scholarship Fund.
