OREGON, Mo. – Nina Lee (Elder) George was born on Sept. 15, 1933, in Oregon, Missouri, one of five children of Doyle M. and Mozelle (Milburn) Elder. She passed from this life on April 25, 2025, at the age of 91 while a resident of the Oregon Care Center.

A lifelong resident of the Oregon community, Nina married her classmate, Otis “Otie” George, on July 8, 1953. They were married for 62 years until Otie passed away in 2015. Together, they raised one son, Michael Eugene.

Nina participated in many aspects of the Oregon community throughout her life. She worked at South Holt R-I for 46 years. Due to her work in the field of education, she was listed as ’20 Who Count’ in the St. Joseph News-Press. She was also named as a ‘Missouri Outstanding Older Worker.’ Nina greatly enjoyed interacting with children and educators alike in the South Holt community.

Additionally, Nina volunteered with the Oregon Care Center, Help the Homeless of Northwest Missouri, the Holt County Cancer Fund, and served on the Oregon Public Library board, among many other community roles. She greatly enjoyed her role as a homemaker, farmer’s wife, and mother.

Nina is survived by her son, Michael (Beverly) George; two granddaughters and their families, including three great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephew, and friends.

The family will have a private inurnment. Memorials can be made to Maple Grove Cemetery Maintenance fund, the South Holt Elementary Coat Fund, a scholarship to a graduating South Holt R-I senior, or any other charity of one’s choice.

Nina’s family would like to extend deep appreciation to the Oregon Care Center, and to Mosaic Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
