See St. Joseph: Holiday celebrations for everyone

By Kendra Simpson
December is a pretty busy time, and in St. Joseph there are endless holiday celebrations and activities. In this week’s edition of See St. Joseph, the holidays can be celebrated with old traditions or unique folklore.
Epic Entertainment is hosting the Christmas Palooza toy giveaway and vendor fair this Saturday, Dec. 14. Support local businesses, get a bite to eat and even get a chance to meet Santa Claus and the Grinch. The two Christmas icons will be handing out presents donated by the community to kids in need. Toy and hygiene product donations will be accepted on the day of the event for those who wish to contribute. There also will be dozens of local vendors and artisans just in time to get some holiday shopping done. Christmas Palooza goes from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday behind the Pony Express Museum at 914 Penn St.
The Krampusnacht Ball is the perfect celebration for those who like a little spooky sprinkling with their holiday festivities. Described as a “decadently wicked night,” the Krampusnacht Ball on Saturday, Dec. 14, is not one to miss. Dress as a Krampus or other ghoulish figure and dance the night away. There will be a live string quartet, belly dancers, a costume contest, a photo booth and food by Belle Epoque. For those not so light on their feet, there will be waltz lessons an hour before the ball so everyone looks regal and frightening together. The waltz lessons begin at 6 p.m. and the ball goes from 7 to 11 Saturday at The Metropolitan, 107 S. Sixth St. Tickets can be purchased through the event’s Facebook page under Krampusnacht Ball 2024.
On Dec. 15, take off the horns and put on your Sunday best for Christmas at the Cathedral. From classic carols to Christmas top charters, the St. Joseph Community Chorus with the Fountain City Brass Band will do it all. The first performance is at 3 p.m. Sunday with another at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 519 N. 10th St. To purchase tickets, visit www.stjoechorus.org.
