Pat Hazell, veteran comedian, playwright, and former writer for the sitcom Seinfeld, brings his one-man show The Wonder Bread Years to the Missouri Theatre on October 4th. The show blends stand-up and storytelling, inviting audiences to relive the humor and heart of growing up in mid-century America.

“I wanted to explore our collective sense of wonder, where we lost it and how to get it back,” Hazell says. From Halloween mishaps to the chaos of the kids’ table, the show captures the moments that shaped childhood with a mix of nostalgia and laughter.

Hazell’s experience writing for Seinfeld sharpened his timing, but The Wonder Bread Years allows him to keep his own voice. “It lets me keep my comedic muscles in shape,” he says. What makes the show special is its focus on everyday life, including cereal prizes, sack lunches, Christmas gift wrap, and road trips in the back of the Country Squire wagon. Hazell also customizes each performance for the local audience.

Even after decades in entertainment, Hazell thrives on live performance. “It’s like surfing a wave of laughs. That adrenaline rush keeps me coming back.” His comedy relies on honesty and everyday experiences rather than shock or controversy, making it relatable across generations.

Beyond the stage, Hazell hosts a podcast, Creativity in Captivity, and is writing a book, Someday I’m Gonna…, offering guidance on living a creative life. Yet his focus remains the same, connecting with audiences and reminding them that joy and laughter are never far away.
