The old fairgrounds near the St. Joseph Stockyards are long gone. New fairgrounds for Northwest Missouri have been years in the making, with big strides and setbacks along the way. The goal of leaders in the effort from the start was to create a sound foundation, not just physically, but conceptually and financially, so this endeavor would not wind up the way so many other great ideas tend to do.

Last year, Buchanan County acquired the former East Buchanan Middle School buildings and property in Easton. A recent announcement by the Buchanan County Fairgrounds board that another pending sale is nearly complete and a contractor has been selected to add a 160’ x 250’ arena signals another step forward.

For 4-H and FFA members, equine enthusiasts, event planners and many others, dreams are a step closer to becoming reality.
