Kris and Kate’s celebrate National Ice Cream Day with cars, concert, and community fun

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- Kris and Kate's will be hosting a National Ice Cream Day today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will have car shows and a concert with live music by Molly Rodriguez. There will be armored vehicles on display for the public during the show.

The St. Joseph police department will be hosting a recruiting event during the celebration with their SWAT vehicles and other equipment for community outreach purposes.

"Hopefully, we can bolster our numbers and get some good recruits to get enrolled in the academy," Jeremy Peters, Sergeant said.

Peters says that he hopes to utilize this event as an opportunity to interact with the community members and bring more awareness about their upcoming events, and hand out flyers to people as they come in.

This is the first time the police department has decided to be a part of this event to connect with the community and its members.

"We have a pretty cool vehicle to bring in and show everyone. We also have one of our Tahoes with us today, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to come out here and be active," Peters said.

The purpose of the event is to bring everyone together and celebrate this day with some sweet treats and exchange conversations with other people in town.
