UNLV 23, Kansas 20

The Jayhawks’ first game since dropping out of the AP Top 25 didn’t go as planned in front of its home crowd at Children’s Mercy Park. Kansas held a 14-3 lead in the second quarter. Jalon Daniels had two early rushing touchdowns to help build that lead, but Daniels would equally factor into that lead faltering later in the game with two interceptions late in the second quarter and early in the third quarter, which UNLV was able to turn both turnovers into points. The Jayhawks drop to 1-2 on the season with the loss.

Missouri Western 35, Missouri Southern 27

It had been over 10 months since Missouri Western had played a game at home, dating back to last November. Western looked right at home at Spratt Stadium against a team in Missouri Southern that crushed the Griffons’ playoff hopes in the regular season finale last season. Western got off to an early 14-0 after the first quarter with back-to-back touchdown runs by senior Brandon Hall. Even though the Griffs were outscore in the second, they still held on to win and improve to 2-1 on the year.

Northwest Missouri State 32, Fort Hays State 20

1994 was the last time Northwest had started a season 0-2, but a rough go in 2024 had them sitting at 0-2 heading into Saturday’s game against No. 25 Fort Hays State. The Bearcats didn’t hang there heads in this game, though they didn’t jump ahead right away. Like the previous two games, the Bearcats were staring down the barrel of another deficit when they fell down 14-0 early to the Tigers. Northwest would save its best day on the ground to earn its first win, rushing for a season-best 138 yards to get the victory.

Grand View 52, Benedictine 28

Benedictine came into Saturday’s home contest at 2-0 and hung 40 points or more against their previous two opponents, but they would manage only 28 against Grand View. The Ravens opened up the score with a Jackson Dooley rushing touchdown to go up 7-0, but Grand View didn’t flinch, and would go on to score 26 unanswered points to help build its lead. Benedictine falls to 2-1 on the season and will take to the road to St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, next week.
