Tracking scattered morning rain & sunshine

Good morning, St. Joseph, and happy Friday. We’ve finally made it to the end of the workweek, and some of you may be waking up to the sound of thunder, especially in counties along the I-35 corridor. A small wave of thunderstorms has been moving through the area, bringing frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

This system is expected to continue tracking southeast throughout the morning. Fortunately, impacts across Buchanan County should remain scattered and minimal. If you’re traveling east along I-35 this morning, you may encounter some heavier pockets of rain along with occasional thunder and lightning.

By around 9 or 10 a.m., most of the rain and storms should move out, allowing for clearing skies. Sunshine is expected to return, and it's shaping up to be a beautiful, slightly above-average day. High temperatures will reach near 80 degrees, which is about eight degrees above normal. Conditions will remain dry into the evening hours.

Tonight, for high school football games, temperatures will fall into the mid- to upper 60s, making for a very comfortable evening under mostly clear skies.

Saturday will bring slightly cooler temperatures, with highs around 78 degrees and continued sunshine. On Sunday, cloud cover will increase as a cold front approaches. Highs will rise to near 83 degrees, and rain is expected to develop early Monday morning.

Behind the front, Monday will be noticeably cooler, with highs only reaching the lower 70s. Rain will continue into Tuesday before tapering off. By Wednesday, temperatures are expected to rebound into the 80s with a return to sunnier skies.
