Tracking t-storm chances overnight tonight through Tuesday

Today marks the first day of fall, and temperatures are expected to be slightly above the seasonal average. Highs will warm quickly to near 83 degrees, making for another comfortable day across the area.
Expect plenty of sunshine throughout much of the day. However, clouds and thunderstorm chances will increase as we head into the evening hours.
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has placed the far northwestern corner of Missouri under a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk. The main threats include large hail and damaging winds.
Here in Buchanan County and areas just to the south, a Level 1 out of 5 risk is in place, with the potential for small hail and isolated damaging wind gusts.
The timing for these thunderstorms appears to be overnight tonight into early Tuesday morning, which could lead to impacts during the Tuesday morning commute. Be sure to stay updated with the Storm Tracker app for the latest alerts and forecast.
Behind this system, a cold front will bring cooler air into the region. Temperatures will drop by nearly 10 degrees heading into Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the low 70s. We’ll gradually warm back into the upper 70s and 80s by next weekend.
Off-and-on thunderstorm chances will continue from Tuesday into Thursday, but we’re expected to dry out by the end of the week.
