Tracking morning frost and late week rain

Good morning, St. Joseph, and happy Thursday! It’s another cold start across the region, with a Frost Advisory in effect this morning for Buchanan, Daviess, Andrew and DeKalb counties in Missouri. The advisory remains in place until 9 a.m.

This advisory is mainly to alert residents about potential frost that could develop on sensitive vegetation. If you haven’t brought your plants inside yet, this morning is a good time to do so.

After the cold start, we’ll warm up nicely under mostly sunny skies, with highs reaching around 67 degrees this afternoon. Clouds will begin to increase later in the day ahead of our next weather system.

Late tonight, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will move into the region, bringing the chance for some scattered rain showers. Most of the rain will hold off until Friday, but it’s not expected to be widespread. With the added cloud cover and rain, Friday’s highs will only reach the 50s — about 10 degrees cooler than today.

Unfortunately, rain chances will linger through the weekend, remaining scattered on both Saturday and Sunday. More rain is also possible early next week on Monday and Tuesday.

Temperatures through the weekend and into next week will stay near or slightly below seasonal averages, with highs in the 50s and low 60s. Overnight lows will be milder, meaning frost is not expected through the rest of the week and weekend.
