Tracking a breezy & fall-like start to the workweek

Good morning, St. Joseph, and happy Monday! This week will finally start to feel like fall, with cooler temperatures settling in after a stretch of unseasonably warm days.

Morning temperatures are starting out in the upper 40s to low 50s, but a steady breeze is making it feel even cooler. Winds today will be out of the south at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph in some areas. These gusty conditions, combined with dry air, will lead to an elevated fire risk this afternoon — fires could spread quickly under these conditions.

A cold front will move through later today, dropping overnight lows into the low to mid-40s. Highs on Tuesday will only reach the low 60s, and by Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, temperatures will fall back into the low to mid-40s — possibly cold enough for the first frost of the season in some areas.

Breezy conditions will ease by Wednesday, and the area will stay dry through midweek. Rain chances return Thursday and Friday, but temperatures are expected to remain near seasonal averages in the low to mid-60s.
