Tracking another warm day and evening t-storms
Unfortunately, it’s going to be another warm day across the area. Morning temperatures are starting out in the low to mid-60s — already well above average for this time of year.
A cold front currently sitting over southeastern Nebraska will slowly push into northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri throughout the day. While we won’t feel the cooler air right away, the front will bring much-needed rain and thunderstorm chances later this afternoon.
By around 4 p.m., rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop along the cold front. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area under a Level 1 (marginal) risk for severe weather — a low-end threat — but a few stronger storms could still produce gusty winds up to 50–60 mph and small hail.
Since storms are expected during the afternoon and evening, they could impact outdoor plans. Remember: when thunder roars, go indoors.
Storms are expected to stay fairly scattered, but may strengthen and organize east of I-35 as they move southeast through the evening. Conditions will dry out overnight, though a few stray showers could linger into Saturday morning.
Behind the front, temperatures will start to cool down. Highs on Saturday will reach the mid-70s, and Sunday will be even cooler with highs in the mid-60s — giving us that first real taste of fall.
As we move into next week, temperatures will stay near seasonal averages. Monday will be slightly warmer with highs in the mid-70s, before cooling back into the upper 60s by Tuesday and Wednesday.
