Tracking thunderstorms during the morning commute
Today will be an active weather day across the area. During the morning commute, expect stronger, gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms to move through the region. Pockets of heavy rain are likely, especially during the morning hours, so be sure to take it slow on the roads. Add extra time to your commute and remember to turn on your headlights—especially if your windshield wipers are on.
With rain falling quickly, localized flooding and ponding on roadways is possible. If you encounter standing water, remember: Turn around, don’t drown.
Unfortunately, the rain looks to stick around through most of the morning and into the early afternoon, making for a soggy start to the day. Don’t forget your rain jackets—and maybe even your rain boots.
Because of the thick cloud cover and rain, temperatures will stay mild and steady throughout the day. We’re running about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, with highs only expected to reach near 70 degrees.
Rain is expected to taper off by this evening, but scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder may linger into the nighttime hours.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, a few light showers may still pop up, with temperatures remaining mild in the low 70s. By Thursday, we’ll finally begin to dry out, and temperatures will climb closer to seasonal averages in the upper 70s and low 80s.
