Tracking thunderstorms chances throughout the day today

Good morning, St. Joseph.
You might be waking up to the sound of thunder or rain. A non-severe system is currently tracking through northeastern Kansas into northwestern Missouri. Throughout the morning, this system is expected to slowly diminish and fall apart. However, rain is still likely in some areas during the morning commute.

Remember to give yourself extra time on the roads this morning. Leave plenty of space between vehicles, and when your wipers are on, make sure your headlights are, too.

Temperatures this morning will be on the warmer side, in the upper 60s to low 70s. Due to continued cloud cover and rain, temperatures are not expected to rise much and should stay in the mid- to upper 70s by this afternoon.

After the lunch hour, another round of thunderstorms is expected to move through the St. Joseph area. This system could be strong to potentially severe.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area under a Level 1 out of 5 risk, mainly due to the threat of damaging winds and small hail. This system is forecast to track through northwestern Missouri during the evening dismissal and commute hours, so be sure to have your weather app or storm tracker downloaded to stay updated with the latest alerts—no matter where you are.

Unfortunately, these rain chances don’t end today. Scattered rain is expected to persist through much of the weekend and into next week.

Temperatures will remain mild, with highs staying in the upper 70s to low 80s over the next several days.
