Tracking more heat and rain chances
Today will be another warm and toasty day across northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Heat index values this afternoon will once again climb into the triple digits, even though no heat advisory is currently in effect. Despite the lack of an advisory, it's still important to take proper precautions and practice heat safety.
Overnight tonight, we’ll see minimal relief from the heat, with temperatures only dropping into the mid-70s. A system from Nebraska will slowly approach from the northwest, increasing our chances for rain late tonight into early Monday morning.
This system is expected to weaken as it moves through the region, but a few showers and rumbles of thunder can't be ruled out. The remainder of Monday looks dry, but heat will remain in place, with heat index values climbing near the triple digits once again.
Monday night into Tuesday brings our next chance for rain and storms. While Tuesday will be a bit cooler, it will still feel warm. A cloud front will continue to push through during the day, helping to lower temperatures and increase storm chances. Currently, there's a 40% chance of rain on Tuesday.
After Tuesday, temperatures are expected to cool down significantly, offering a break from the persistent heat.
