Tracking hot & hazy conditions this weekend

The wildfire smoke from Canada has returned and is once again impacting our air quality. A hazy horizon is expected to persist overnight, as smoke from fires up north continues to drift into our area. Air quality may reach moderate levels, so those with sensitivities to smoky conditions should take precautions, as it could be hazardous.

Overnight, showers will pass to our south along I-70, leading to increasing cloud cover and a slight chance for a sprinkle or two. The best chances for precipitation are near Kansas City and Platte County, though a stray shower could wander further north. Temperatures will dip into the upper 60s.

Tomorrow will be similar to today, with some lingering clouds and a bit of residual haze. Winds are expected to shift to the south, which should help push the smoke back toward Canada, improving air quality as the day progresses. Conditions on Sunday will remain dry, but leftover moisture from overnight showers could spark a light sprinkle during the early morning hours.

Looking ahead to Monday, temperatures will continue to warm as clouds begin to clear. Dry weather will hold through the day. Rain chances begin to increase on Tuesday, with a 40% chance of rain on Wednesday—currently looking like the wettest day of the week. Rain chances will persist into the latter half of the week.

Temperatures will climb above 90°F by midweek before cooling off again toward the weekend.
