Tracking a hot and humid Independence Day

The 4th of July is tomorrow, and the forecast is looking better than it did earlier this week. Overnight temperatures are expected to dip only into the 70s, keeping conditions warm, humid, and mostly clear. A steady southerly wind over the past few days has helped maintain these warm temperatures.

As we head into Independence Day, highs are expected to reach into the 90s once again. Earlier weather models had suggested the possibility of rainfall Friday evening, which could have disrupted celebrations—but those projections have shifted. Rain is now more likely on Saturday, making Friday look much drier overall. There is still a slight 10% chance of a stray shower passing through Friday afternoon, but most of us should remain dry.

On Saturday, rain chances increase significantly to around 60%. We could see some scattered showers in the morning, along with cloud cover that may linger through the early part of the day. A stronger system is expected to arrive later Saturday evening, bringing the potential for heavier rain overnight. Saturday now looks to be the wettest day of the weekend.

The incoming rain system is tied to a cold front, which will bring some relief from the heat. Temperatures are forecast to cool to the upper 80s on Saturday and dip further into the mid to low 80s by Sunday.

As we wrap up the weekend on Sunday, rain chances will begin to taper off. However, this won’t mark the end of wet weather. Scattered showers and highs in the mid-80s are expected to continue into next week, lasting through at least Thursday.
