Hottest day of the year approaches with rain chances increasing

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- Good morning all, and happy Tuesday. We are continuing to track warm temperatures on the way to St. Joseph, and residents will start to feel the heat today. Highs are expected to reach the mid to high 80s, and could even tie or become the warmest day of the year so far if we make it to 87 degrees.

Tomorrow is the day we are watching the potential of hitting 90 degrees for the first time this year. Recent model runs have dropped the forecasted temperature by one degree, suggesting 89 degrees will be the hottest it gets tomorrow. If that is the case, we will just miss our first 90-degree day of the year, but I don't think anyone is complaining.

Rain chances creep back in briefly on Wednesday evening, though most will stay dry. Rain will become more likely as we head into the weekend, with Sunday and Monday bringing the greatest chance as of now.
