Quarterfinal Recap: St. Joe Christian, Mid-Buch fall, West Platte headed to state semifinals
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- The season will come to an end in the state quarterfinals for St. Joe Christian and Mid-Buchanan football while the state semifinals now await for West Platte and Rock Port.
The Rock Port Blue Jays defeated St. Joseph Christian in the state quarterfinals on Saturday in St. Joseph behind an explosive offense that registered 70 points on the day, now the seventh time they've eclipsed that mark this season.
St. Joseph Christian will end its season with a 6-6 record and the 8-man Class 5 District Championship.
Matched up against a difficult opponent, the Mid-Buchanan Dragons battled but were defeated by Monroe City. The Dragons found themselves down 17-6 after the first quarter and faced an uphill climb from there, surrendering 34 points in the fourth quarter to fall 58-21.
The West Platte Blue Jays will march into the state semifinals after an impressive victory over Adrian on the road. The Blue Jays defense gave up just 7 points, the third time they've held an opponent to a single touchdown this year.
The Class 3 District 8 Champion Maryville Spoofhounds were defeated in a high-scoring back-and-forth game against St. Michael the Archangel. The Spoofhounds battled back from down multiple scores to give them a chance to take the lead but St. Michael's defense would ultimately come up with the game-clinching stop on the final drive.
