ST. JOSEPH, Mo (News-Press NOW) -- With playoffs just a few weeks away, some St. Joseph area schools are sporadic with their standings.

Starting in eight-man football, the St. Joseph Christian Lions are tied for first place with the South Holt Knights at 3-3 on the season in Class One District Five.

After starting the season 3-1, highlighted by an overtime victory over the Albany Warriors in week four, the Lions have lost back-to-back games and have two very tough games ahead of them.

Next Game: vs. Pattonsburg Panthers (6-0) on Oct. 10.

The Bishop LeBlond Golden Eagles are sitting in third place in Class One District Five at 2-4. Through the first six games of the season, the Golden Eagles have faced some fierce competition, which resulted in their 1-4 start to the season.

In talking to Head Coach Chuck Davis, he said the team had to "weather the storm" in order to prepare for districts. That's exactly what they did in week 6 against the KC East Academy Christian Lions.

The Golden Eagles would get back on the winning side of things in week 6, with the hope that the win can jumpstart the team's chances to potentially host a playoff game.

Next Game: at Northland Christian Trailblazers (2-4) on Oct. 10.

The Lafayette Fighting Irish sit in last place at 0-6 in 11-man Class 3 District 8 on the season.

Through the first three games of the season, the Fighting Irish struggled to close out games, losing all three contests by one score. The same can't be said for the last three games, after only scoring 12 points in those games while allowing 115 points.

Head Coach Nate Daugherty, throughout the season, said the main thing the team needs to do is start hot, which has been a struggle for the team. With Daugherty's way of coaching, the team is poised for improvement in the coming years.

Next Game: vs Cameron Dragons (2-4) on Oct. 10.

Now in Class 4 District 8, the Benton Cardinals sit in fifth place at 2-4 on the season. First-year Head Coach Mark Cole is focused on building a culture in his first season with the Cardinals, but the road the Cardinals have traversed this season has been bumpy.

The combined record of the teams that have beaten the Cardinals is 20-4. While the team has lost three straight games, the culture Cole is building is showing, not in the record, but in the mentality of the players and the coaches.

Next Game: at Monroe City Panthers (5-1) on Oct. 10.

In Class 6, District 8, the Central Indians sit in second place at 4-2 on the season.

Senior quarterback Kanon Wetlaufer has exploded this season, ranking second in the state of Missouri in passing yards and leading the state in total yards.

Dealing with the adversity of the turf field not being completed until their second home game, the team has handled the feat well, and could be on the way to hosting a playoff game for the second straight year.

Next Game: vs Park Hill Trojans (3-3) on Oct. 10.

With how the teams are playing in St. Joseph, there could be a few home playoff games being played in St. Joseph come November.
