A clash of two St. Joseph high school girls soccer programs saw the Central Indians take down Benton 4-1 on Monday.

Out at “The Den” behind Bode Middle School, the Indians took full control of the contest from the start. Central minimized the amount of shot attempts from Benton while taking plenty of its own.

Taylor Dickens of Central made the most of her opportunities when they were presented in the first half. Dickens broke the scoring seal with just over 10 minutes into the contest by scoring the game’s first goal, shooting the ball into the top left corner of the net.

Not long after with just under 14 minutes into the game, Dickens found herself free again for her second goal of the game by squeezing the ball past the Benton goalkeeper in the bottom right corner of the goal to give Central a 2-0 lead with plenty of time left in the game.

Dickens may have scored two early goals, but wasn’t satisfied with just that. She went for the first half hat trick, but was unable to come away with a third goal in the half.

The Cardinals would eventually lessen the cushion Central had created by finally getting one into the net with under 19 minutes remaining in the second half. But the hope of making a comeback wouldn’t last long once Central put its foot back on the gas, scoring two more goals the rest of the game and ultimately claiming the victory.

The season-opening loss for Benton puts it at 0-1 out of the gates whereas the Indians get themselves to 1-1 with the win after losing its season opener against Liberty last Friday.
