See St. Joseph: celebrating Juneteenth

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- This weekend, the Juneteenth celebrations continue. News-Press NOW's Kendra Simpson found just a few of the events celebrating the holiday in this week's edition of See St. Joseph.Â
The Juneteenth celebrations have been going strong all week, so what better way to send them off than with a parade?
Starting at Bode Middle School, the Juneteenth parade will march through the streets of St. Joseph, showing off its pride, heritage and of course lots of candy. The parade will end at the Bartlett Center, where vendors, a petting zoo, face painting and more await at Juneteenth's Family Day. Be a part of one of St. Joseph’s biggest cultural celebrations. For the complete parade route, visit www.stjosephmuseum.org/events.
Of course, we have to celebrate black fashion. Luckily, a classic part of the Juneteenth celebrations is the Juneteenth Fashion Show.
At the fashion show, models can choose to strut their stuff by themselves or pull up friends and family to join them on the catwalk. The fashion show will feature all kinds of styles like casual, dressy, sports, urban, formal and more. This will be a great opportunity to have fun, cheer each other on and witness some very cute looks. The fashion show begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Bartlett Center, located at 409 S 18th St.
To end the Juneteenth celebrations, St. Joseph will commemorate the holiday with a Sunday worship and picnic.
Music, fun, worship and lots of good food! The picnic is the perfect opportunity to gather and celebrate the diversity and rich culture of St. Joseph. The picnic goes from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bartlett Center.
