A collision that started with a deer on Interstate 29 sent a motorcyclist and other drivers to the hospital Monday afternoon.
Matthew Banks, 36, of Oregon, was northbound on I-29 on a motorcycle when he struck a deer and lost control, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports. He was taken to Mosaic Life Care by EMS for moderate injuries.
The accident caused a chain-reaction crash, leading to multiple vehicles colliding with each other, MSHP Sgt. Shane Hux said.
Several other vehicles slowed due to the first crash, and Ginger Coverdell, 74, of St. Joseph, struck a van, according to crash reports. As Coverdell’s vehicle was stopping, Abbey Williamson, 30, of St. Joseph, struck the back of Coverdell’s vehicle. Corlous Bradley, 29, of Savannah, attempted to avoid striking Williamson’s vehicle but struck the rear of it.Â
Williamson was taken to Mosaic Life Care by EMS for serious injuries. Coverdell was transported for minor injuries. Matthew Jones, 35, of St. Joseph, who was a passenger in Bradley’s vehicle, went to Mosaic Life Care by private vehicle.Â
