Longtime fireman Captain Chad Kirkendoll is the Hometown Hero for August.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- This month's Hometown Hero, sponsored by Tolly and Associates American Family Insurance, is Captain Chad Kirkendoll of the St. Joseph Fire Department.

Captain Kirkendoll has been with the department for over 20 years, and his co-workers said he is dedicated to his work and to the community and encourages everyone he meets. Kirkendoll said that for him, the department has become like a second family to him, and he enjoys getting to know people throughout the community.

"We rely on each other," Kirkendoll said.
