It’s Your Call for Dec. 5

Only in the government

The front page in Tuesday's paper said revenues for the school district are declining. Certainly, revenues from the government are declining as they are tied to the number of students, but overall spending has increased dramatically. Only in government speak can you say I wanted a 20% increase, but only got a 10% increase, so I took a 10% cut.

Should also be addressed

I agree that revenue is declining along with our population and that the St. Joseph School District needed to look at different options. But while we have a declining revenue and a decline in students, we have more administration today than we did 10 or 15 years ago. That needs to be addressed also.

Talk about high taxes

Seen the paper where St. Joe has a surplus of jobs. Said there was over 3,000 jobs waiting to be taken. Said a lot of people are moving from the big cities because of high taxes and issues like that. Well, they better not move to St. Joe if they don't want high taxes. I just got my property tax bill the other day and it went up $400 for the year. So you want to talk about high taxes? Come on to St. Joe then.

Thank you, Brett

I wanted to basically say that Brett Esley is an unsung hero for us in St. Joseph. His promotion of sports and all the things that surround it, and his overall enthusiasm for St. Joseph as a community over the decades that I've known him, just tell me that he's a great citizen, has done wonderful things for our community, and I think he needs to be recognized for everything that he does. Thank you.

Another solution

When I went to school here in St. Joe, the 7th grade stayed in grade school. Then the 8th grade went to high school. Go back to that and close all middle schools. You would save lots more by doing that.
