It’s Your Call for Nov. 19

Veer off the usual pattern
This is about the consideration of putting in new housing on 36th Street. I would just encourage the city to consider veering a little from their usual pattern of flash and burn and leaving the old parts of the city to fend for themselves. There are so many areas, particularly in Midtown, and in the South End, big areas, big acres, plus acres of town where they could infill.
Big news
So the Chamber of Commerce is announcing a new launch pad Downtown in that building that's been promised to us eight years ago. Now they're saying it's big news because it's going to happen again. Yeah, right. Didn't happen last time. I'm not going to hold my breath that it happens this time.Â
Two problems
Well, St. Joe has two problems. Half of St. Joe has Trump derangement syndrome. The other half has school board derangement syndrome.
District lines
As the school board tentatively endorsed the Lafayette-Central model, I'd like to see the district line. Assuming they want to balance the enrollments, more or less, my guess is anyone from Faraon Street on north would be in the Lafayette district. You could live two blocks from Central and be in the Lafayette district. I'd like to see the line that it proposed.
Just a thought
I was just wondering if the school board had ever considered moving the seventh and eighth graders or at least the eighth graders in with the high schools. The district could then keep all three high schools and that would also free up the four middle school buildings. Like I said, it was just a thought.
