Ricky Dale Johnson went home to his Lord and Savior on Jan. 5, 2026, with a Hospice caretaker at his side in St. Joseph. He was a caring husband, father and grandfather blessed with two grandchildren named Austin and Miles, and one great-grandchild named Stetson.

Ricky Dale was born to George and Cleo Johnson on Feb. 2, 1945, in Elgin, Nebraska. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1963.

On June 13, 1965, Ricky Dale married Dorothy June Goodwin, from Hamilton, Missouri. They had one child: Jason Johnson.

Ricky Dale enjoyed family time with his son, daughter-in-law and grandkids and their girlfriends it was always the center of Ricky’s life. In addition, he enjoyed spending time with the rest of the family, the neighbors that were family to him, and hospice team all meant a lot to him. Nothing brought a smile to his face more like getting together with his son and spouse, grandchildren and girlfriends and great-grandchild, he loved seeing them happy and would do anything for them to make them happy or put a smile on their face.

Ricky also had many hobbies he loved doing besides spending time with his family. One of his favorite things to do over the years was woodworking, another was astronomy looking at the stars, and many others such as being a helpful handyman by helping others in need, and he also loved spending time sitting and talking with his guy friends and relatives having coffee time together. Ricky and June enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas to spend time with their best friends Jimmy Smith (Jackie).

Ricky will be missed by his wife, Dorothy June, family, friends and many that loved him and knew him for many years.

Ricky Dale retired from MoDot after 36 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Duane and Gary Johnson; sister, Gena Rae Johnson-Shores; nephews, Mike Shores and George Johnson; niece, Debra Stoltz.

He is survived by his wife, June; children, Jason Johnson (Teresa); grandchildren, Austin Johnson (Katie Graves) and Miles Johnson (Emily Camacho), and great-grandchild, Stetson Lee; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He’s also survived by his brother-in-law, Frank Shores; and sisters-in-laws, Carolyn Johnson and Joan Dickau.

Farewell Services 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mosaic Hospice.
