Coffey, Joyce E. 1947-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Joyce E. (Thompson) Peterson Coffey, 78, St. Joseph, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Maryville, Missouri, to Wayne and Wilma (Hammond) Thompson.

Joyce grew up in Northwest Missouri and graduated from Ravenwood High School in 1967. Joyce earned her licensed practical nurse certificate and IV training, then worked in numerous health care facilities and provided in-home care for family members.

She married William “Bill” Peterson, who preceded her in death in 1992, then later married Carl B. Coffey, who preceded her in death in 2016. Joyce enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and reading. She also loved crocheting — with all family members receiving a baby blanket — cooking, music and dancing. She also was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Bill Peterson and Carl Coffey; children, Kimberly Peterson and Brenda Day; and sister, Shirley Allee.

Survivors include children, Anita Combs (Cody), Michel Peterson (Ginger), Jim Coffey (Michelle), and Jill Coffey; grandchildren, Hunter, Melia, Chaley, Hannah, Hillary, Clowie, Austin, Becky, Randy, Clarissa, Mariah, and Brooke; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Sanders; numerous other beloved family members.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial contributions to Susan G. Komen for the Cure or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
