Schaefer, Louis E. 1951-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Louis E. Schaefer passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at the age of 74. Louis was born in St. Joseph.

He attended Immaculate Conception and Co-Cathedral grade schools, Central High School and Missouri Western State College. He married Melody (Berry) Oct. 28, 1972. They resided in Helena, Missouri on N. 169 Hwy. for 34 years. They returned to St. Joseph in 2009.

Louis worked at Wire Rope Corporation for 30 yrs. He worked in the plant for 16 years, and the office for 14 years. He suffered from numerous back injuries and surgeries before retiring.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Melody, she survives of the home; son, Michael (Kate) Schaefer; daughter, Leah Garcia (Andy); and five grandchildren, Brittan, Brooklyn and Drexel Schaefer, Logan and Joseph Garcia. Additional survivors include sister, Norma (Dan) Norris; brother, Chris (Darla) Schaefer; niece, Karle (Joe Houghland); and nephews, Brian (Marissa) Schaefer and Neil (Lauryn) Schaefer.

Louis was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Schaefer; parents, Eugene and Thelma (Gregory) Schaefer; and in-laws, Drexel and Sarah (Fields) Berry.

Louis was a car enthusiast, a do-it-your-selfer and an excellent cook.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, at 2 p.m. at The Hi Ho located at 1817 Frederick Ave. St. Joseph, MO 64501. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
