Ashlock, Darrel D. 1948-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Darrel D. Ashlock, 77, of St. Joseph, passed away Nov. 2, 2025. Darrel was born Oct. 4, 1948, to Sherman and Elizabeth Ashlock.
He graduated from Central High School in 1966 then served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War in the Mobile Riverine Force. He graduated from Missouri Western in 1975 and received a Master of Science from Central Missouri State University.
Darrel attended the Law Enforcement Academy, was a member of the drug strike force. He ran the crime victims unit for the Prosecuting Attorney’s office in St. Joseph under Mike Insco and Dwight Scroggins.
He worked for the parole board in Jefferson City, Missouri, and retired as Director of Harbor of Hope- a home for troubled children of trauma, at the Lake of the Ozarks.
He was member and Elder of Community of Christ Church and was a volunteer guide for the Community of Christ Temple in Independence, Missouri. Darrel worked for President Bill Clinton setting up Governor’s fund for low-income youth jobs program. He was an avid photographer and loved fishing, traveling, and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha; two children, Tara Colman (John), Jeremey Franke; four grandchildren, Andrew Brant (Samantha), Kendall Franke, Kinsley Franke, and Kaitlyn Franke; two great-grandchildren, Adalee Brant and Cambryn Brant; sister, Bonnie Ashlock Canchola (Greg); brother-in-law, Mike Flowers (Angie); nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Eddie Sharp.
Celebration of Life services will be Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, 1 p.m. at Community of Christ ALC Church, 5301 Faraon Street, St. Joseph.
