Michael Guthals

Micheal Guthals, 76, of St. Joseph, passed away on Oct. 21, 2025 surrounded by family.

He was born in Clovis, New Mexico, graduated from Central High School in 1967 and Missouri Western State College in 1971. Mike dedicated over 25 years with The Department of Family Services.

He loved his family, found strength in his church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mike is survived by his wife, Carol Guthals; brother Doug (Katie) Guthals; sister Jody Creighton; four children Derek Guthals, Karla Walters (Ed), David Smith (Kim), and Amy Stafford; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Doris Guthals; brother, Daryl Guthals; lifelong friend, Mike Datillo; and his loyal dog, Trixie Girl.

Celebration of Life will be noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at Clair United Methodist Church, with lunch to follow for anyone who would like to stay and celebrate Mike’s journey. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Voices of Courage.
