Amy Margaret Robertson July 15th 1992-September 13th 2025

“He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart” Psalm 91:4
Amy was born in Saint Joseph, MO on July 15th, 1992 to Janey Robertson Johnston and Daniel J. Heckman II, both from St Joseph, MO. Amy was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Thomas and Patty Robertson, Daniel and Carol Heckman, and her Uncle Joseph Robertson.
Amy was destined to be a special person from the time of her birth. At the moment of Amy’s birth a strong thunderstorm suddenly stopped, shortly thereafter the clouds parted giving way to a stunning and beautiful rainbow. Obviously, God wanted to make a statement of Amy coming into this world, and the impact she would have on all of us.
Amy spent her first six years in Saint Joseph before Janey and her husband, Matthew Johnston, moved to Columbia, MO where Amy attended Fairview Elementary in Columbia, MO through 5th grade. After 5th grade, Amy moved back to St Joseph where she attended Saint Francis Xavier for Middle School. Amy initially attended Central High School and then decided to transfer to LeBlond High School for her sophomore year where she met many wonderful friends including classmate Fr. Garrett King. Amy then transferred back to Central High School for her Junior and Senior years, graduating in 2011. Amy developed a strong conviction for her Catholic faith, and her love for helping the less fortunate. She expressed her desire to help the most vulnerable by embarking on many Mission trips outside of the United States. She had profound knowledge of her faith that taught many of us so much. With Kathleen “Heckman” Winegardner living in the Boulder, CO area, Amy moved to Colorado after high school where she made many great friends. While in Colorado she worked for Saint Gabriel’s House for single mothers, Bella Health and Wellness, and Catholic Charities of Denver. She enjoyed her time in Colorado with her many friends and Kathleen Heckman-Winegardner.
During Amy’s lifetime, she enjoyed spending time with her Uncle Tim Robertson and his wife Kathleen Kingsley-Robertson. Amy also loved going to visit her Grandmother Carol ‘NaNa’ Heckman and eating her wonderful meals. As a young lady, Amy learned to make pottery with her Aunt Jeanne Meyer. We were so proud of her art work, Jeanne held a celebration ceremony at her home for all to view the beautiful artwork. Others took notice of Amy’s talents. With Jeanne Meyer’s guidance and Amy’s artistic ability, Amy won first place in the Ceramic Division at the Albrecht-Kemper High School Regional Exhibition. Amy also enjoyed going with Jeanne Meyer to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, viewing their extensive art exhibits.
Amy had a great enthusiasm for all sports. Amy’s zeal for sports was a shared common with her uncle Mark Robertson and Grandfather Dan Heckman Sr. Amy loved to swim starting at an early age. She enjoyed visiting her Nana Heckman and swimming at the next-door neighbor’s pool with her friend Ali. She was on the swim team from 6th grade through high school, and continuing throughout her life. She loved being with her family, practicing her faith, swimming, going to the ocean, going on walks, her coffee drinks, being with friends, hosting parties, reading, and loved music. Amy had a shared passion with her dad Daniel of attending music concerts. Amy most importantly valued her friendships and close girlfriends that she shared many experiences with.
In January of 2022 Amy moved to Dallas Texas to start a new adventure working for Bishop Robert Barron and Word on Fire. Later that same year, Amy unfortunately was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Her unwavering convictions were so inspiring for all during her battle with AML. The love, support and prayers she received from all helped her so much during this challenging and difficult time.
Amy was also admired by her medical caregivers for her bubbly personality, strength and perseverance during her treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A deep appreciation to the dedicated medical professionals that oversaw Amy’s treatments, including Dr. Mathews at Medical City Dallas, Texas, KU Medical Center and our friend Dr. Rony Abou-Jawde (Dr. AJ at Mosaic Center).
Amy is survived by her parents, Janey and Matt Johnston, Daniel J Heckman II and Kerry, siblings- Sarah, Jeffrey, Patrick, and Timothy, half-siblings Josie, Katie, and Daniel Heckman III (Trey), children of Jill and Daniel J Heckman II as well as many loving and supportive aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
