Brewer, Mary J. 1958-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Mary J. Brewer, 66, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born Sept. 30, 1958, in St. Joseph, daughter of Mary and Frederick Penland.

Mary attended Rosendale High School. On April 28, 2006, she married John Brewer. She worked as a CNA at LaVerna Heights Village for many years. Mary enjoyed spending her time gardening, watching game shows, and she loved caring for others. She also enjoyed going to garage sales and spending time with her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Sally Ann Bailey, Rose Sterlo, and Bonnie Potts.

Survivors include: husband, John Lee Brewer, of the home; daughters, Angie Helm, Christy (Charles) Hill-Anderson, of Savannah, Missouri, Candy (Matt) Gann, Michell Hill, of St. Joseph; step-children, Rick Miller, Matthew Brewer, and Danelle Brewer; siblings, Bill Penland, Steve Penland, Fred Penland Jr., and Nancy Ball; grandchildren, Kurtis, Ryan, Boston, Bianka, Shea-lynn, Kelsy, Shyann, Corey Jr, Ariel, Kayla, Dezirae, Brock, Kiley, Austin, Talynn, Azayah, Lane, Kyler, Kazdyn, Eli, Zach, Brianna, Lexi, Rikki, and William; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Ms. Brewer has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to Aseracare Hospice. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
